鈥 a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. A rather broad term, Asian/Pacific encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia and Easter Island).
Like most commemorative months, Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month originated with Congress. Its origins date back to the late 1970s, beginning with annual proclamations for Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week until 1990, when Congress passed its observance to a month. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

New Data and Report Requests Tile
After more than a decade of service, Institutional Research is retiring the "Ask IR" tile on "My Northshore." We are also retiring the same link from the IR Department WebPage. Not to fret - there is a replacement tile "Data and Report Requests." This form has been reworked to better reflect the abundance of options available through the IR office and will allow us to better track and manage requests and to identify departments where additional training in systems would be helpful.
As always, the IR office is here to support the work of the college. We love helping
you with data and supporting you with new & old systems. Great service is what we
strive for, and this form will help us provide that. We love your calls, chats and
emails, but we can't keep track of them.
Please log into your mynorthshore and search for "Data and Report Requests" and save this tile. Make it one of your favorites.
Please try your best to fill out this form for any and all requests directed to anyone
in IR. For those using ZogoTech, we have also updated the assistance form to the
above Data and Report Requests.
There are plenty of ways to reach us via this tile/ form/ link :-)
