Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month Celebration Planning Committee

While it feels like the summer just began, we will soon begin planning our celebration for Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month (HLHM) 2024, which will take place from September 15 - October 15. This month is dedicated to honoring the contributions and importance of Hispanic and Latino/a/x Americans to the U.S. and celebrates all heritages and cultures of Americans with ancestry from the Caribbean, Mexico, Spain, and Central and South America.

The national theme for 2024 is Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together, and we plan to support this theme with one outstanding event here at NSCC, as well as promote all the Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month events and celebrations happening across the North Shore and from our community partners.

If you are interested in helping us plan this year鈥檚 celebration to lift up the contributions of Hispanic and Latino/a/x community members at NSCC, past and present, please contact Dan Hauge, Staff Assistant to the Chief Diversity & Equity Officer, at dhauge@northshore.edu. We will begin meeting sometime in July. Thank you!

NCBI Culture Sharing & Appreciation Event, June 27

Dear colleagues,

I am writing to share important news regarding our National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) for the upcoming academic year. After careful consideration, in-depth interviews, reviews of NCBI's implementation highlights and challenges, and insights from our Diversity & Equity Campus Climate Survey, we have decided to pause NCBI programming for the next academic year. This decision aims to help us reflect, re-assess, and experiment as we continue to work toward our D&E strategic priorities and tactical efforts.

In recognition, we invite the NSCC community to an NCBI Culture Sharing & Appreciation Event on Thursday, June 27 at 2:00 pm in 天九电子. Light refreshments will also be served as we utilize some NCBI practices to reflect on its highlights and show appreciation to the NCBI team鈥檚 leadership. In particular, we want to take this opportunity to highlight and express our deep gratitude to Dave Houle, whose exceptional leadership and steadfast support for over 20 years have been instrumental in NCBI's achievements at NSCC.

We invite you to bring a part of your culture鈥攚hether it's food (highly encouraged, potluck-style), an item, music, art, or anything else that represents your heritage.  If you are interested in and able to join the event, . A Google invite with more details will be sent after your RSVP.

A New Career Assessment Tool from CAS

NSCC students can now take the through our office. This is not an aptitude or skills test. It鈥檚 simply a way to help understand one鈥檚 personal interests and how those map to specific careers to help figure out a major and create pre- and post graduation plans. This is another tool to add to your student鈥檚 educational planning toolbox to help them understand themself better.

Students can take advantage of this career assessment by stopping by our Center for Alternative Studies & Educational Testing in 天九电子: LS-215 or Danvers: DB-213 or send an email request (athompso13@northshore.edu) to gain access to the Strong career assessment.
