The NSCC Police are looking for your help!

Assist the NSCC Police Department by Volunteering to be an Evacuation Monitor

The primary responsibility of an evacuation monitor is to provide for the safe and orderly evacuation of our community members in the event of an emergency that requires a building evacuation. This is performed by assisting the NSCC police by directing people to the nearest exit and instructing them to assemble at the closest evacuation assembly point and wait for further instructions.

How do I learn more?
Start by emailing Deputy Chief Kevin Marshall at kmarshal@northshore.edu and letting him know you are interested in participating. Training will be provided by the NSCC Police Department which will take approximately 30-40 minutes. The dates and times of the training will be taking place towards the end of August. Don鈥檛 hesitate. Sign up today!

American Scapegoat

MCCEC Summer 2024 Common Read: American Scapegoat

As part of our ongoing collaboration with the Massachusetts Community College Equity Consortium (MCCEC), and through the DHE鈥檚 Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) Grant - you are invited to join in our Summer 2024 Common Read! The title for this year鈥檚 Common Read is American Scapegoat, a book of poetry by Haitian-born Enzo Silon Surin, an educator, author, and advocate.

NSCC has 20 copies of this book for those who are interested in reading along with us. If you are interested, simply email Daniel Hauge at dhauge@northshore.edu and let him know you would like a copy. We will then send you the book or arrange for you to pick it up.

Then, on September 13 at 1pm, join us by Zoom for a Book Talk with the author, Enzo Silon Surin. You can join via the Zoom link here:

American Scapegoat is a book of painstakingly honest and chilling poems about America鈥檚 neglectful relationship with its own history. At the core of this reluctance to frame the past in its proper context is the fraudulent and fraught mythology that Black people are what America needs to be protected from.

UPDATE TO COVID+ REPORTING

We wanted to make you aware of the updated guidance from the CDC and MA Dept of Public Health.  The following message will be posted to our internal and external websites, and on August 30, 2024 we will discontinue use of the studentcovid@ email for Covid+ notifications.  Starting September 2024 if students disclose their status, you can refer them to the website guidance.  Employees should continue to reach out to Jennifer Chavez to report their Covid+ status, as that process hasn't changed.  Have a wonderful summer.

RESPIRATORY VIRUS GUIDANCE
Each year, respiratory viruses are responsible for millions of illnesses and thousands of hospitalizations and deaths in the United States. In addition to the virus that causes COVID-19, there are many other types of respiratory viruses, including flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The good news is there are actions you can take to help protect yourself and others from health risks caused by respiratory viruses.

As part of the guidance, the CDC and the MA Dept of Public Health provides active recommendations on core prevention steps and strategies:

  • Staying to protect people against serious illness, hospitalization, and death. This includes flu, COVID-19, and RSV if eligible.

  • Practicing good hygiene by covering coughs and sneezes, washing or sanitizing hands often, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces.

  • Taking steps for cleaner air, such as bringing in more fresh outside air, purifying indoor air, or gathering outdoors.

When people get sick with a respiratoryvirus, the updated guidance recommends that they stay home and away from others. For people withCOVID-19 and influenza, treatment is available and can lessen symptoms and lower the risk of severe illness. The recommendations suggest returning to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, symptoms are improving overall, and if a fever was present, it has been gone without use of a fever-reducing medication.*

For at least the first 5 days after you resume normal activities, take these extra precautions:

  • Avoid crowded indoor spaces. Wear a mask anytime you are indoors around other people

  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

  • Avoid spending time with people who are at

Follow for full guidelines from the MA Dept of Public Health
