Inspired by the sculpture of a seashell that stood across the road from a North Shore
beach, 天九电子 (NSCC) Graphic Design student, Kayla Riley, created a seashell logo in shades of yellow and bright pink. She submitted her
logo to the annual logo design contest and earned a spot as a semi-finalist.
鈥淚鈥檓 so happy with how the design came out,鈥� said Riley. 鈥淚鈥檒l be excited to see it in the logo exhibit at the Marblehead Festival of Arts this coming summer.鈥�
NSCC Integrated Media and Graphic Design Program instructors include field-relevant assignments each semester for their students. One of the assignments had students, under the guidance and coaching of NSCC graphic design instructor Donna Murphy, submitting entries for the Marblehead Festival of Arts logo contest. The Festival, which started in 1962, runs a contest each year with a panel of judges.
This year there were 63 submissions from which nine semi-finalists were chosen. Three of the semi-finalists were NSCC Graphic Design students. In addition to Riley, student semi-finalists included Edgard Dossantos and Joe Reyes.
Although, in the end, none of the students won the logo contest, all thought the experience and excitement of competition were invaluable.
鈥淚 was honored to be selected as a semi-finalist,鈥� said Dossantos. 鈥淚t was a great opportunity to apply what I鈥檝e learned about branding, experiment with different ideas, and create something meaningful.鈥�
